The strips
A blocked nose is the reason the mouth takes over
When a child's nose is hard work, the mouth wins. It is not a habit and it is not stubbornness, it is the path of least resistance. A nasal strip sits across the bridge of the nose and gently lifts the sides outward, holding open the narrowest part of the nasal airway so the easiest way to breathe is the way you want them breathing.
There is nothing to absorb and nothing to swallow. It is a flexible band and a skin friendly adhesive, doing one mechanical job from the moment it goes on.
Why parents use them
-
Quieter nights for the whole house
An open mouth is a loud way to sleep. When the nose is doing the work the room settles, and so does everyone trying to sleep near it.
-
The mouth closes because the nose is open
You cannot talk a sleeping child into breathing through their nose. Take the blockage away and the mouth closes on its own, without anyone asking.
-
Nothing goes into your child
No spray, no drops, nothing medicated and nothing absorbed. If you are tired of adding another bottle to the shelf, this one stays on the outside.
-
You know by the morning
There is no loading period and nothing to build up. One night tells you whether a blocked nose was part of the picture, which is worth knowing before you change anything else.
-
No bedtime negotiation
Nothing to practise, nothing to remember, nothing to cooperate with. It goes on at lights out and that is the whole ask.
-
Sized for a small face
An adult strip on a child either will not sit where it needs to or pulls far harder than it should. These are cut and tensioned for children.
What parents say
First night we used one he slept with his mouth shut for the first time in months. I did not expect something this simple to make that much difference during hay fever season.
He calls it his nose sticker and asks for one at bedtime. Peeling it off in the morning is not a battle, which is more than I can say for most things we have tried.
We use them alongside the pillow. The strips are what we reach for when she has a cold, the pillow is the every night one. Together they cover more than either did on its own.
Why the nose is the front door
Air taken through the nose is filtered, warmed and humidified before it ever reaches the lungs, and the nose adds the resistance that makes a breath slow and deep rather than shallow. A mouth breath skips all of it. The catch is that a child does not choose between the two, the body simply takes whichever route is easier, and a swollen or congested nose settles that question every night. Open the valve and the easy route becomes the right one again.

Where a strip helps, and where it does not
A strip works at the nose, so it helps most when the nose is the bottleneck: a cold, allergy season, a stuffy room. It does not change what happens further back, where the chin drops toward the chest and the soft tissue of the throat folds toward itself. That part is head position, and it is what the LittleBear pillow is for. If your child snores loudly on most nights, gasps, or pauses in their breathing, that is a conversation with a clinician first, before any product.

How to use one
About ten seconds at lights out, and nothing else for the rest of the night.
-
Place it across the bridge
One strip, sitting just above the flare of the nostrils where the nose is at its narrowest.
-
Press the ends down
A couple of seconds on each side is enough. That is what holds it through a night of turning over.
-
Peel it off in the morning
Warm water on a flannel loosens the adhesive first if your child would rather it came off easy.
Try it tonight and find out
One night is enough to tell you whether a blocked nose was part of the picture.
